3rd stage-Delivery of the Placenta

  • After the baby has been delivered you must expel the placenta.
  • Usually occurs within 30 minutes following the delivery of the baby
  • Will experience mild contractions.
  • Nursing the baby at this time will help the uterus to contract and push out the placenta
  • After the placenta has been expelled the uterus should clamp down to prevent hemorrhage
