3rd stage-Delivery of the Placenta
- After the baby has been delivered you must expel the placenta.
- Usually occurs within 30 minutes following the delivery of the baby
- Will experience mild contractions.
- Nursing the baby at this time will help the uterus to contract and push out the placenta
- After the placenta has been expelled the uterus should clamp down to prevent hemorrhage
